The Bahrain World Trade Center

bahrain world trade center

This magnificent looking Bahrain world Trade Center is a 50 storey twin tower building that has been designed from the ground up to maximise the efficiency of its three 29 metre diameter wind turbines. The building channels the wind in such a way that a fast and reasonably uniform airflow meets all three of the turbines. The sail shaped buildings ensure that wind can hit the buildings at up to 45 degrees and still be channeled through the gap between the towers where the turbines are located. The design also allows for fairly smooth, uniform power generation as the amount of wind that drives each of the turbines is roughly the same.

bahrain wtc The three turbines provide between 10 and 15% of the towers' power needs. This does not sound like a great deal until one considers that this is the equivalent of powering approximately 300 homes. This will result in a significant cost saving for the operators of the towers during the expected 20 year lifespan of the turbines.

The turbines themselves were designed and manufactured using existing components which has greatly reduced the cost of their integration into the Bahrain world trade towers. The completion of this landmark wind power project is an important step forward for bringing all forms of renewable energy into mainstream construction.
