Bakken oil fields

Why do some people not want to believe that oil energy is not sustainable or environmentally sound? (Strip mining was once thought a good idea, too.) The people who extol the virtues of the Bakken oil deposits are either involved in the oil industry or heavily invested in its success. None of them appears to see beyond his own short term interests.

I am assuming that none of these people has children or grandchildren.

It is precisely this world view--greed and selfish short sightedness--that has brought us to the brink environmentally.

Denial never solved anything and it is what will finally sink us if the people who cling to it so tenaciously do not wake up.
