Basic Math Review: Beginning Multiplication.

Basic Math Review: Beginning Multiplication.

Once your child has a developing knowledge of the math tables for multiplication, you can start introducing more complex sums. This is best done in parallel to the learning of the times tables, since the two feed off each other. Success in memorizing times tables will mean your child can experience success with more advanced multiplications, which will in turn encourage further effort with the tables.

For this reason I have provided a set of very basic math review multiplication exercises that require very little carrying or other child-strenuous activities. While the sums are easy and your child will experience success with them, if they are used properly she will also learn how to set up these problems which is also an essential skill.

As with the addition sheets, it is essential that your child writes out the sum and does NOT write on the paper. This will both improve connection between the question and the answer and will also develop important problem setting up skills. There is also the added benefit that you can re-use the worksheet.

There is only one really ultra-simple sheet, Sheet 1. If you want to practice more of the single multiplication set up questions like in part one of the sheet, just pick times table questions and have your child set them up the way shown on the sheet.

Sheet 1

These following sheets will require your child to set the numbers up clearly, in columns. All five sheets are of the same difficulty but with different sums.

Sheet 2a
Sheet 2b
Sheet 2c
Sheet 2d
Sheet 2e

Please don't forget to share these sheets or this website with your family and friends.
