Capped or Plugged?

by M. A. Fisher
(Elkhart, KS)

I have inherited mineral rights on land within the Bakken oil field. Years ago some wells were drilled, then capped and left. Is there a difference between capping and plugging a well? I have had several offers over the years from brokers to buy my rights, not realizing until recently that the land sat within this field. I still retain my rights.
