Coulomb Technologies Inc
Coulomb Technologies is a young company in the electric vehicle recharging field. They manufacture and sell units called Charge Points, which are used to recharge electric and hybrid vehicle batteries. The company was founded in 2007 and has been pushing since then for a slice of the emerging charging network market. At the beginning of 2009 Coulomb raised an impressive $3.75 million to ramp up operations and push into the European market. It has partnered with the German company Estag Capital to achieve this, which is a significant boost to the young company. The company produces a range of charging stations from 120V 15A to 240V 80A AC charging to 120kW DC charging. These stations can be run through a network that users subscribe to. They are then able to use any of the chargers in the network via a swipe card. Some of these stations are already in use in San Francisco and Chicago. The field of electric car charging is not without competition though. Coulomb's main competitor in this area is the more established Better Place company. Whether there is room in this market for two or more major players remains to be seen. One thing is for certain, that the market for electric vehicle chargers is set to grow enormously.
