Electric Car Charging Points For Green Motoring

An aeronautics company called AeroVironment is set to commence building up to 100 electric car charging points similar to that shown below in South Carolina as of June 15.

electric car charging The charging points are being paid for by a South Carolina government grant of $480,000 and installed through the combined efforts of the state's major utilities. They are to be located in seven cities in South Carolina.

The major obstacle for would-be users of electric vehicles is out-of-home charging. It's a chicken-and-egg problem, as electric vehicles are not viable without charge points and no-one will build charge points unless electric cars are in use, since there is no profit to be made doing so.

However, building and operating charge points may very soon become a far more profitable industry with the imminent release of the mass production fully electric Nissan LEAF.

Government incentives, such as the grant provided to Aerovironment, is just what is needed to get the ball rolling on this issue.
