Evergreen Solar

evergreen solar Evergreen Solar (NasdaqGM: ESLR) produce solar cells using the String Ribbon production method. This is a highly resource and space efficient method of solar cell manufacturing. It allows the benefits of using crystalline Silicon in their solar panels as well as allowing the company to produce all the components needed for their solar panels at the one location.

The Massachusetts based company was founded in 1994. It has been expanding since then, and recent agreements signed with China will boost the company's annual production to about 500 MW in 2012. In total the agreements signed since the beginning of 2008 total upwards of $1 billion US.

The company does not make panels available directly to consumers, but only sells through distributors. They do however sell their panels to small scale installers and not just large industrial scale projects, like First Solar does. Whether that is through necessity or not will be seen when the company kicks off its large scale operations in the next couple of years.

For more information about the company, visit the Evergreen website.
