The Honda Electric Scooter

honda electric scooter The EV Neo is the new Honda electric scooter set to be released in Japan at the end of 2010. The scooter will be released in limited numbers and is aimed squarely at delivery businesses such as pizza shops. The vehicle can travel at up to 30kmph and has a range of 30km. This clearly is suited to its target market as the top speed would not be ideal for daily commuting, though the range would be sufficient.

One interesting aspect of the Neo is that the battery can be quick-charged to 80% capacity within 20 minutes. This is in line with the notion of the scooter being a run-around workhorse vehicle. It will also be a good test of the technology which the battery manufacturer Toshiba will no doubt be paying close attention to.

This is a sleek looking vehicle and it's good to see a major manufacturer testing the electric scooter market. It is possible that this vehicle and its limited release is more of a trial run for Honda than a service to the businesses that will buy the scooters. It would make sense for Honda to test their technology on a limited number model that has few expectations for high speed performance placed on it.

The EV-Neo electric scooter will not be available to commuters, though I believe that it's a case of "watch this space" regarding Honda and the electric scooter market of the future.
