Illinois Solar Energy

illinois solar Illinois solar energy rebates are handled through the Renewable Energy Resources. There is sufficient money to keep this Fund running until the end of 2015. The Illinois state government has set a target of 25% renewable energy by 2025 and this Fund is working to that end.

Rebates cover up to 30% of the cost of the installed system up to a total rebate amount of $10,000. The total cost of the system must be under $50,000. To have a look at the requirements for your installation and download an application form, click here. To have a look at all the available grants for this state, visit the DSIRE website.

Property Tax

The Illinois General Assembly has indicated some property tax benefit for installing solar electricity and heating systems. The topic is addressed here, but my legal-speak is not well developed and I can't easily read this. It looks like you won't have an increase in your property tax even though the value of the property increases as a result of the solar installation. This exemption also applies to wind power and geothermal power setups.
