Indiana Solar Power
Indiana solar power rebates are an area the state could improve on. At present support for the solar electric industry in Indiana through government rebates is virtually zero.
Property TaxUnlike virtually every other state, Indiana does not offer a property tax exemption on solar electric installations. There are full rebates on solar heating systems that are valid year after year, but if you install solar panels on your roof you'll get slugged with an additional property tax due to the improved value. State Tax CreditsAlong the same lines as the property tax, installations of solar electrical equipment have no rebate or tax credit associated with them. The maximum tax credit for heating installations that meet the requirements is a mere $100 per year with no carry over to the next financial year permitted. Incentives From UtilitiesWhile there seems to be a swag of energy efficiency and geothermal rebates floating around, there is nothing on the solar electricity front. You may want to contact your local energy provider to see whether this has changed of late, but at the time of writing no rebates were on offer. SummaryUnless you're interested in solar heating equipment, Indiana is not the state to be living in if you want your electricity to come from the sun. When compared to the impressive rebates offered by states such as Colorado, Indiana's offerings border on the pathetic.
