The 100 kW Intel Solar Array
The 100 kW Intel solar array is yet another signal from the microprocessor giant of its intention to green up its act even more. The rooftop installation is located at its Research and Development center at Jones Farm Campus in Oregon, United States, pictured to the right. The array consists of 504 solar panels and will benefit the environment to the tune of 4 million pounds of greenhouse gases over the guaranteed life of the solar modules, which is 25 years. Already Very GreenIntel already has well established green credentials. In 2008 they committed to purchasing 1.3 billion kilowatt hours of electricity from renewable sources. This has placed the company on the top of EPA's Green Power Partners list. This is a voluntary act on Intel's part, showing that the company has a genuine desire to be as environmentally neutral as possible. Aside from its rooftop solar installation, Intel's Renewable Energy Certificate purchases provide the microchip manufacturer with the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power more than 130,000 average American homes annually, all from renewable sources. SolarCityThe company that performed the installation is SolarCity, a well established installer of both commercial and residential solar arrays.
