Kids Math Game: Memory Eleven

This kids math game is a variant of the memory cards game uses pairs add to eleven rather than pairs of the same number.

Objective: To make pairs of cards that add to eleven.

Number of Players: 2 or more.

Materials required: A deck of cards with the face cards and Jokers removed.

This game can be played with 10, 20, 30 or 40 cards which allows the game to be scaled according to your child's concentration span. These are the A (one) to 10 cards. This game does NOT use the face cards (K, Q and J) and . Each set of 10 cards gives 5 pairs that add to 11.

How to Play: Cards are laid out into a grid. It is recommended that a neat, preferably square, array is used as this will help your child locating items using across and up / down references, which is necessary later on in maths for topics like graphing equations.

Players take it in turn to flip over any two cards in the array. These must be shown clearly to the other player(s). If the cards total to 11, the player collects them and places them face up in front of her. That same player then has another turn, and this continues until the player turns over two cards that do NOT add to 11. Play then passes clockwise to the next person. This continues until there are no cards remaining from the initial array.

The winner is the player with the most cards in front of her.

Learning: By playing this kids math game your child is learning both to track objects in an array, is practicing concentrating, and is learning and reinforcing addition facts that sum to 11.
