New York Solar Rebates

New York solar rebates are hotting up. The state is aiming to produce 25% of its energy from renewable sources by the year 2013, and to make this happen the government is making lots of money available for rebates on home solar installations as well as other green energy projects.

Up until September 2009 the state government will is making $13.8 million available for rebates on home solar installations. These rebates are offered through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Rebates are available for installations performed by Eligible Installers. Rebates are paid to the installer but are required to be passed on in full to the customer. This is a process that could take some time, so make sure you've got your finances sorted out and don't need the rebate to be processed in a hurry. This is especially true of the final 25% of the rebate that comes after the installation has taken place.

How The New York Solar Program Works

There are some limitations on the systems that are eligible for the rebate.

1. Rebates only apply to newly installed systems that are installed by an Eligible Installer.

2. Systems installed prior to approval by NYSERDA are not eligible.

3. Systems must consist entirely of new equipment, with no second hand panels or other gear being used.

4. Electricity production up to 110% of the demonstrated annual electric use for the site is available for rebates.

5. Rebates are typically between 40% and 45% of the total installation cost.

Getting A Quote

As a New York resident, you can contact Sunpower for a free site assessment and quote. There's no obligation, and all you have to do is fill out a form. They are a reliable, well established company with a solid track record in the domestic solar area.

This Is Good News

The mains electricity grid in New York state is in need of upgrading of supply and equipment. In this environment the installation of decentralized small power generation systems such as roof top solar arrays is clearly a big benefit. It's very refreshing to see s state government tackling this issue with serious money and realistic rebates.
