Pennsylvania Solar Power

In order to address the lack of Pennsylvania solar power rebates, the state government recently approved $850 million to tackle issues related to energy efficiency and green electricity production over the next four years until 2013. This is a great boost to the renewable energy sector of the local economy and should bring great benefit to the state in the long run.

Of this money, $130 million will be dedicated to home and small business solar power installations. The aim is to have 800 megawatts of electricity being produced by small scale solar installations by the year 2019. Money will also be made available for purchasing energy efficient heating and cooling appliances, which is again a good, common sense approach to reduce energy use.

While this money is yet to become available, it is reasonable to expect that the rebate scheme will be fairly generous. The previous scheme was the Sustainable Development Fund and they offered up to $25,000 maximum rebate on qualifying solar home installations.

More Information

Pennsylvania already has a tax credit scheme running for renewable energy production including wind power, closed and open loop biomass and power generation for landfill gases. For more information, see the Pennsylvania Department of Environment website.
