Practice Maths: Free Multiplication Speed Tests
These practice maths speed tests are great for encouraging the budding mathematician. I have used these with excellent effect. Twelve and thirteen year old Government school students may not be the most thankful people around, but when I hear them say "I'm good at maths now" as a result of my teaching I take that as a personal compliment. These speed tests come in two groups, the 1x-10x tables tests and the 1x-15x tests. Use whichever tests your child is currently up to. In class I give students two and a half minutes to complete as many questions as possible. Then I mark them and the students get a score out of 50. At home you can record the results in a table that you keep stuck to the fridge or somewhere else prominent. This is a good idea for home study. In the class the students compete against each other, but at home the written record will help with motivation to improve between tests.
