The 2C LED Solar Cap

The newly available solar cap by the company 2C is potentially a very useful item. The cap has a flexible solar panel mounted on the top of the visor and two powerful LEDs mounted underneath, as well as an on / off switch. The biggest advantage of this solar device is that you don't need a hand to hold it.

solar cap The LEDs emit a bright and concentrated light, illuminating objects as far as 30 feet away, though the brightest illumination is directly in front of you. You can also set the lights to various flashing patterns. Heaven only knows why you'd want to inflict that on yourself, but the option is there.

The cap is fitted with a NiMH battery that holds enough charge to operate the lights for 5 hours. The cap takes 3 days of sunlight to reach full charge.

On the down side, the direction of the lights cannot be modified so the cap's usefulness is probably greatest at some distance. There also appears to be no way to replace the LEDs if they wear out, though the LEDs are slated to work for 100,000 hours so that's probably not a concern.

This cap looks ideal for night time fishing, working under the house, or even for bushwalking or camping. If you're interested in seeing more pictures of it or buying one, check out the company website.
