China's solar generator: the Massive 1000MW Project
China's newest Solar Generator looks set to take the limelight with a multi-stage concentrated solar power plant that will be generating 1000 MW by the year 2020. The first phase is planned to be built quickly and will provide 50 MW of electricity. According to the Chinese Government, the project planned for Northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China will cost in the vicinity of $USD 2.5 billion. This project will be constructed by Solar Millennium AG, the heavyweight international solar construction company. Details of the type of solar power harvesting it will use are not yet available, but as it is a Solar Millennium project it is likely to follow the parabolic trough concentrated solar power model, using similar technology to the

The Chinese Government in Beijing has stated it will work towards increasing its percentage of renewable energy from the current 7% to 15% by 2020. Given China's meteoric economic and energy needs growths this is a large statement. This solar power station is a move in the right direction.
