BT's Solar Panel Roof
Slashes Power Use By 20%

solar panel roof Internet and Communications giant BT Alliance's new solar panel roof array is a long term investment in both their company and the future of the planet. The 600 kW solar photovoltaic array is located on their very large El Segundo facility in California, United States. This impressive array, shown to the right, is capable of reducing Carbon emissions to the tune of one million kilowatt hours of electricity each year. This is expected to reduce BT's electricity grid dependency by about 20%.

This structure shows the commercial viability of going green. Companies such as BT Alliance are not likely to invest in long term projects that do not at least break even on the costs front. What this project does indicate is BT's long term intentions to both remain in business and to have a more positive impact on the environment.

Energy Partnership

BT has partnered up with Solar Power Partners to make this massive rooftop installation a reality. The agreement involved Solar Power Partners building the array and then entering into a power purchase agreement with BT over a long time period.
