Solar Power UK

solar power UK Solar Power UK: The UK government has grants available for a wide range of renewable energy equipment that can be installed in the home. Grants range up to 2,500 pounds per property and apply to both solar electric and solar hot water systems. The grants also apply to wind turbines, small hydroelectricity generators, biomass and geothermal electricity and heat generators. Funding may also apply to fuel cells and a range of heat harvesting equipment.

Solar electric systems are quite expensive and while they can provide up to 50% of your annual electricity, the cost of an installation is beyond the reach of many people. The government grant can soften the blow somewhat, but the bulk of the cost still falls on the resident.

Energy Use Reduction

There are many incentives around to improve energy efficiency in the home. There are government Warm Front grants, though these are mainly targeted at people who are struggling somewhat financially.

The government's Carbon Emission Reduction Target (CERT) demands that large energy providers meet household energy efficiency standards for the people they service. They do this by providing funds for installing loft and cavity wall insulation. Contact your energy supplier to see what is on offer. Local governments may also have grants available to increase your energy efficiency, so call your local council to see what they can do for you.
