Will A Solar Road
Be Near You Soon?

In an attempt to develop a prototype of a Solar Road Panel, the US Department of Transportation has provided an Idaho company called SolarRoadways with $100,000. The idea is to replace regular road paving with solar panels which would then in turn supply the local power grid and provide energy to nearby homes and businesses with electricity.

solar road Not only that, but SolarRoadways is aiming to incorporate LEDs into the surface of the panels that will allow line markings and warning signs to appear as needed. It's an ambitious project, for sure.

The size of the grant shows that this is a long shot, but if SolarRoadways can produce a working model with this money they will have made a huge breakthrough. The amount of road surface that receives full sun is enormous, as is the amount of electricity that can potentially be harvested from it.
