The Soldius Solar Charger

The Soldius solar charger, called the Soldius1, is a rectangular hand sized solar charger that comes in a wide range of colours. Unlike other chargers this one does not incorporate a battery. This makes it lighter and less long term maintenance than other units like the Solio solar charger, though it is only able to function in the daytime and cannot store any excess energy.

soldius solar charger The charger is powered by two polycrystalline photovoltaic solar energy cells contained in a hinged case that closes to profect the panels when the device is not in use. The panels are quite effective and can charge a mobile phone in 2 to 3 hours, which compares favourably with other devices in this category at the same price range of roughly $100. Other devices with larger capacity batteries will take longer to charge. Devices connected to the charger will recharge much faster if they are switched off at the time.

Issues With The Product

The Soldius solar charger comes with a one year warranty which is not unreasonable given the price of the device. It is likely to function for far longer than this as there is no need to replace an internal battery.

Comapibility with devices is something that needs to be checked before purchasing this item. The basic charger is sold in three versions: with phone adapters, iPod adapters, or both. The cost of each kit is different with the combination kit of course beiung the most expensive. While extra connection tips are available for this unit they need to be purchased. Ask your potential vendor whether the devices you want to charge are compatible with this unit.

The Soldius is not weatherproof and so needs to be protected from the elements. The warranty on this item will be void if it has been damaged from flame, water or being dropped. While it is designed to be mobile, it still needs to be looked after and treated as a delicate item.
