Suntech Power
Suntech Power is one of a raft of Chinese solar manufacturers that look set to participate in China's planned explosion of solar energy production and use. China's solar energy capacity is set to increase by up to 100 times its current size over the next 20 years according to one Chinese Government official. Incredible as this sounds, this amount would still only provide a tiny fraction of China's energy requirements.
The company was formed in 2001 and is currently one of the largest producers of solar cells in the world. They have four factories located throughout China and they produce both thin film panels and mono- and polysilicon modules for markets around the world. The scale of their production makes Suntech panels some of the cheapest solar panels available.
International OperationsThe company distributes and sells its panels worldwide through agencies in many countries. They are pouring heaps of funds into Research and Development to ensure they stay at the cutting edge of mass production in the solar field. They have also been involved in several large solar power plant constructions. These include the 35 MW Elecnor Power Plant in Spain, shown in the image to the right. More InformationSuntech is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker name STP. For more information about the company, visit the website.
