Is Water For Gas A Reality?

water for gas

There is a lot of talk on the internet about using water for gas in cars, but what is the reality of these claims? Water is a very stable compound which is produced from many sources including burning fossil fuels. It is formed by the rearrangement of the atoms in the fuel when the fuel burns and releases energy.

Therefore water is a lower energy substance than the fuel that produces it. For this reason water in its molecular form cannot be used as a fuel. Any e-book or kit that claims that your car will be able to run on only pure water for gas is a complete farce and will be wasted money.

The Hydrogen gas can then be used as fuel as either an addition to the existing fuel supply or as a fuel supply on its own. The important point here is that we need to add energy to the water to split it into H2 and O2. It is this energy that is released when the hydrogen burns. Due to various inefficiencies in the conversion of energy from one form to another, we will never be able to harness the same amount of energy from the Hydrogen gas as we used to create it.

Water For Gas Kits: Do They Work?

The short answer is yes. The conversion kits make use of excess electricity generated by the car's electrical system, and this electricity is used to split the water into its separate gases. This electricity does not come free; the turning of the engine drives the alternator, which makes the electric current. The alternator is therefore driven by the gasoline that runs the car, which in turn means that we are effectively converting water to Hydrogen gas by burning fossil fuels.

Have a look at this water conversion kit; it's well priced and clearly states that it's an electrolyser. It's also got a full refund option with a 60 day trial period.

In almost all cars, and moreso in older cars, the alternator produces a surplus of electricity. The car needs a certain amount to run its electrical systems while in operation. Any excess is sent to the battery to keep it fully charged. If there is a surplus beyond that, it goes to waste. The Hydrogen gas kit uses that excess of electricity that would otherwise be wasted and converts it to Hydrogen gas fuel.

How Is Hydrogen Fuel Stored? Is It Dangerous?

The water for gas hydrogen is not stored, but is fed straight into the carburettor of the vehicle. This has the effect of increasing the power that bthe vehicle gets from its fuel. This then means that to drive at a certain speed you will need to use less accelerator peddle, which gives you better fuel efficiency. It will not result in a zero fuel bill or even close to it; you will get a slight but ongoing decrease in your fuel consumption.

If installed properly, the hydrogen fuel is only generated while the car is running and it is burnt in the engine virtually immediately. It is also generated in quite small amounts so it poses no risk of explosion or catching fire.

Will Hydrogen Damage The Engine?

Hydrogen has a fairly low combustion temperature so it will not cause damage to your car. You need to be wary though of voiding manufacturers' warranties on new cars, as in most cases work on the engine of a new car needs to be done by an endorsed mechanic. Tampering with the engine to install a Hydrogen kit could leave you with no warranty.

Summary

In short, these kits are a good idea if you have an out-of-warranty car that you want to get a bit of extra efficiency out of. This is a cheap way to reduce both costs and emissions slightly. If your primary concern is reducing your fuel bills, it may be more productive to consider switching your car to an alternative fossil fuel such as LPG.
